Interns
As an intern in a very busy non-profit Discovery Center, you will be offered hands-on experience working with Zookeepers and Education Staff. Interns learn the day-to-day functions of Southwick’s Zoo as well as animal care and husbandry. Interns clean cages, show animals to visitors, direct visitors throughout the zoo, enter data into zoo computers, draft documents for zoo use, and observe animals for zoo personnel. Part of an intern’s responsibilities will be helping the Earth Discovery Center staff set up for educational presentations, answer visitor questions about environmental issues, animal ecology and other topics.

Volunteers - Docent Program - Classes start February 11, 2012
Becoming a Volunteer at Southwick's Zoo is a rewarding experience! Southwick's Zoo's Volunteer - Docent Program is for people who are 18 years of age or older.
Volunteers work in many different areas throughout the zoo. You may spend time teaching facts about an animal, explaining deer adaptations, guiding a zoo tour, leading a giraffe feeding, or helping people find their favorite animals at the zoo. All docents answer more questions than you can imagine. Questions include: "How long does it take a baby giraffe to get as tall as it's mother?" and "Where are the bathrooms?"
Becoming a docent at Southwick's Zoo begins with a 10 week class to learn information about the zoo and its inhabitants. Classes start on February 11, 2012. Docents begin at the zoo with the mentoring of a senior docent and are asked to give 8 hours a month to the zoo, from April - October. In return, volunteers can earn a family pass to the zoo, learn a lot about the animals at the zoo and become part of a great group of people.
Class size is limited.
